Adopt an Object, Save the Past
Make New Milford's Past Part of your Future…
Adopt an Object, Save the Past
We are honored to be responsible for caring for and preserving hundreds of treasured objects from our town's past. Part of our museum's mission statement is "to maintain our artifacts and documents in an efficient and professional manner so that the historic past of our town is available for present and future generations." We continually receive many historically significant objects from individuals for our collection which range from textiles to archival documents. Ideally, each object in our collection should be housed in an acid free box and wrapped in acid free tissue. Other storage needs include shelving in our storage areas, polyethylene bags for small objects, document boxes and mylar sleeves to properly store historical photographs and archival material. With approximately 8,500 objects in our collection to care for, it is quite expensive to make sure each object is properly stored.
The Adopt an Object Program is a new and fun way to support and care for your favorite collections, preserve your local and national heritage and inspire people each year. Your tax deductible donation to Adopt and Object Program will help pay for the care, maintenance, and storage of our permanent collection. Come to our upcoming exhibit, Heirlooms from the Attic: New Milford Historical Society's Finest to choose the item of your choice to adopt from the exhibit- a piece of silver, a period dress, a painting or a document. As a thank you for your donation, your name will be included on the objects with the object while on exhibit. You will also receive a certificate of adoption, an information sheet on your object and your name will be included on our website and newsletter as a proud member of the Adopt an Object Program! Whether your passion is Art or History, we hope you will get involved and Adopt an Object for yourself or as a unique gift for your friends or family. Come and get truly involved in being part of your local history. Please give us a call to discuss adopting an object at (860) 654-3069, or click here to contact us via email.
We are always looking for individuals who love New Milford, history or antiques.
