Boardman Store

1796 Boardman Store reconstruction - Elijah Boardman built his store in 1796, adjacent to his residence on Main Street. It is mentioned in local accounts as a starting point for settlers heading out west. In 1819 the business was sold to Stanley Lockwood and Anan Hine, and thereafter to Eli and Henry S. Mygatt, Andrew B. Mygatt, and Charles Hurd Booth. In 1861 the building was moved, by Miss Cornelia E. Boardman, to the west side of Railroad St. adjacent to the railroad tracks. After she died, in 1914, it was moved again to the northeast comer of Railroad St. and Boardman Terrace where it was used as the Travaglini home for many years. Mr. Paul Travaglini sold the house to H.H. Taylor Inc. in 1988 and Mr. H.H. Taylor donated it to the Historical Society in 1994. The Society reconstructed the building on its property to preserve this piece of New Milford history.

The building is currently used to display the collection of Woldemar Neufeld paintings.
