for Your Treasures, A Primer on Furniture Conservation" New Milford Historical Society offers this special presentation by Fallon & Wilkinson, Baltic, CT. Fallon & Wilkinson, LLC brings a combined 45 years of training and experience to the care and conservation of furniture, wooden artifacts, and interior woodwork, blending old world craftsmanship with modern conservation practices. The firm also provides museum quality reproduction furniture for institutions and private clients. Since its founding in 2000, Fallon & Wilkinson, LLC has built a worldwide reputation for its knowledge of antique furniture and the delicate art and science of conserving it. Tad D. Fallon and Randy S. Wilkinson both trained at the Smithsonian Institution's prestigious Furniture Conservation Training Program. Tad completed a conservation fellowship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and holds a Master's Degree in Conservation from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Randy completed fellowships at the Preservation Society of Newport County in Rhode Island and the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut and holds a Master's Degree in Conservation from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Society will be held on the grounds of the Museum at 6 Aspetuck Avenue,
during Village Fair Days, July 29-30 from A Preview Sale will be held on Thursday, July 28th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the museum, for those who wish to shop before the sale opens to the public on Friday. Admission to Thursday's Preview Sale is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The Society is accepting donations of furniture, antiques, jewelry, crafts, toys, vintage clothing, hard cover books, tools, holiday, garden and household items for the sale. Toy Making and Games - CANCELLED Join Bob Coppola in one of New Milford’s historic one-room schoolhouses. Dating from 1843, Hill and Plain Schoolhouse is located on Sullivan Road in the southern end of New Milford. Children will have the opportunity to play historic games, such as hoop and stick and the game of graces, and create and play with Early American Toys. Limited to 20 children, ages 8 to 11 Knit or crochet, crochet or knit . . . or knot?? Join us for this fun social evening, and learn or re-new a skill. Joseph Lillis Historical Lecture Series #1 - CANCELLED Daniel Palmer’s talk will explore the Ralph Earl portraits of the Boardman family as well those of the Congregational Church’s Reverend Taylor and his wife. He will explain the familial relationship of all of these sitters and how the relationships are visually linked by the master portrait painter Ralph Earl. Membership Dinner and Meeting This year’a Annual Dinner was held at the Holiday Restaurant in New Milford. The Holiday endured three floods this year, and the society was happy the dinner took place there. Attendees had two meal choices, cash bar and appetizers, served salad, buffet dinner, and served cake and ice cream for dessert. Three baskets were raffled off, and some pumpkin centerpieces made by Susan Metcalf. Susan also provided seasonal decorations. Thanks to Discount Liquors for the wine basket donation. Thanks to Pat Hembrook for assembling the basket items donated by several Trustees. M.
Joseph Lillis Historical Lecture Series #2 John Lee, retired vice-principal of New Milford High School, will present a Power Point show giving us an insight into the Pequot Indians of Connecticut. The Pequots first contact with Europeans came in 1614, when Dutch Traders extended from the Hudson River Valley into and beyond the Connecticut River. The Pequot were an agricultural people who raised corn, beans, squash and tobacco. They also hunted in the wintertime and fished. The villages were heavily fortified in case of enemy attack. Dwellings were of either wigwams or long houses. In the 19th Century they were confined to reservations. And, in recent decades the Pequot have regained their tribal unity. Today there are about one thousand Pequot living in the United States. FREE. “Voices

Joseph Lillis Historical Lecture Series #3 Christina Eriquez , a graduate of New Milford High, is the author of the new book, “Our History in Stone”. Christina will unlock the meanings behind the symbols on the tombstones. She’ll also share her knowledge of the superstitions held by old New Englanders. FREE. Thursday

of Wine and Song The society will sponsor the 4th annual "Evening of Wine and Song," a holiday wine tasting party Dec. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. (snow date is Dec. 4) at 6 Aspetuck Avenue. The wine will be provided by Dolly’s Wine Boutique and the entertainment by TBA. The cost is $25 per ticket in advance and $30 at the door. Along with the wine tasting, there will be an exhibit tracing the ways New Englanders, New Milfordites in particular, observed Christmas in the past.
