Paula Walton will give a presentation on "Frugality and Fashion: An Intimate Look at an 18th Century Gown from a Dressmaker’s Perspective."

At 7:00 pm, Paula will discuss the history and construction techniques of the gown worn by Ann Northrop Taylor in her 1796 portrait by Ralph Earl. Both the gown and the portrait are in the collection of the New Milford Historical Society. In addition to talking about Mrs. Taylor’s gown, Ms. Walton will also speak about historic dress making in general.Paula has recreated this historic dress for this extraordinary event to be held at the society. $15 non-members/$10 members.

The New Milford Historical Society is selling the book "Voices from the
Past" featuring the Anne Northrop Taylor dress on its cover.

At the conclusion of the lecture, interested persons may register for a
two-day workshop to learn how to make a copy of Ann Northrop Taylor’s gown.

Costumes, quilts, and more! New Milford’s history is rich with variety and we will provide a glimpse of life here over a 300-year span. Our museum is open to the public today at no charge!
